In both out of caution and as an evasive business viability decision, organizers say, the 2022 Folk Alliance International conference and showcase has been postponed for three months from the original February dates to May 18-22, 2022,  in Kansas City.

All current conference registrations will be automatically moved forward to the new dates. If anyone can no longer attend, FAI will provide a refund and all registrants have received a separate email about that simple process. If there are any questions or concerns, FAI has created a survey to collect community feedback here.

"This has been a difficult decision to make, but after working with event safety consultants at Majestic Collaborations, the Kansas City Health Department, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Westin Crown Center Hotel team, we determined this was the most responsible way to proceed," FAI said in a email statement. "FAI staff and board will be working collaboratively with SERFA (the Southeast Regional Folk Alliance) to support their return to in-person gathering the week prior."

There is a brief video from FAI executive director, Aengus Finnan, explaining a bit more in-depth why we've decided to move the conference:

You can also contact FAI staff directly at fai@folk.org or 1-816-221-3655. Note that the office will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2.
