So I had a chance to have a real quick conversation with Adrian Jewett, singer, among other specialities for The Most Serene Republic. The band is currently touring Ontario, having experienced some serious turbulence, but that is to be expected n'est-ce pas? They began their tour out west where unfortunately, a thief, yes a thief in Vancouver swiped their gear! Jewett explains...
the latest update, “Sean’s guitar was actually found at a pawnshop and that was good because it had the most sentimental value. It’s being shipped back to him…just pure luck. There is a special district of the police department in Vancouver that specializes in theft. They gave Sean a call when they found it. They travel around to pawnshops checking out UPC codes and that kind of thing.”
Their tour has also taken an unforeseen change due to a swine intrusion. “The tours going well, however, The Meligrove singer Darcy got sick, he’s got the swine flu…it’s really sad….another one infected.”
What this means for their tour is that as of now Meligrove will no longer be touring this vast country along side The Most Serene Republic. Instead of picking up a new band to travel with them, they have decided to reach out. “I think we’re just going to bring out the locals.”
To the album…
The latest record from the band is called …And The Ever Expanding Universe. What do you feel when you first here this title? I feel like the hypnotizing keys, horns, whimsical voices, and synth beats are going to cause me to slowly melt into my chair, which will slowly melt into the floor, which will turn into a giant hole, which will then transport me to a place beyond words.
Jewett explains how the record was written saying, “A lot of it was written at the studio, I would say about half and half. The ideas just formulated themselves between the two spaces and flushed out. I think any melody is impromptu, it’s just a matter of whether it’s good enough to remember or not.”
The band has also released their latest music video for Heavens To Purgatory. Even though Jewett is not the biggest music video advocate, him saying, “Yeah it’s fine. I don’t really like music videos, so I just watched it once. And was like ‘hey that’s great’. It’s just for people to watch if they have any spare time on the Internet…which a lot of people do,” I thought I would add the link in case you are one such person at the moment: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTdO4VwhtHw
